Note from the CEO

Jenny Brown

Dear Friends of Dutton Farm,

As we near the end of another remarkable year at Dutton Farm, I want to extend my warmest greetings. You are the heartbeat of our organization, and thanks to your generosity, we’ve navigated a year full of growth, resilience, and impact. I am truly grateful for your unwavering commitment and excited to share some highlights from the year.

This year, we welcomed over 50 new participants across our programs, bringing total enrollment to more than 175. Our workforce development program grew by 98%, and our adult education services increased by 29%. We provided over 4,000 rides into the community, ensuring participants had opportunities to engage in enriching experiences—from museum visits and performances to local outings—helping them build independence and confidence.

Our Workforce Development Program continues to empower employees with disabilities to thrive. Collectively, our supported employees earned over $250,000 this year, demonstrating the meaningful impact of their work.

Operationally, we strengthened our programs and expanded community partnerships to better support participants. Volunteer groups, employment partners, and community collaborators helped enhance our services and create new opportunities for engagement.

This year, we also introduced new initiatives that focus directly on participant growth, including expanded skill-building opportunities and enhanced arts programming through our Art Without Limits program. These programs are designed to nurture independence, creativity, and meaningful employment skills.

While we faced challenges—including navigating the evolving Medicaid landscape and accommodating program growth—our team’s dedication and resilience allowed us to continue delivering high-quality services.

As we enter our 17th year, we remain committed to helping every participant reach their fullest potential. None of this would be possible without you. Your support enables us to achieve these milestones and continue making a lasting difference in the lives of the adults we serve.

Thank you for being an essential part of our community. Together, we look forward to another year of impact in 2026!

The past year at Dutton Farm has been marked by significant milestones and exciting progress.

We celebrated the ribbon cuttings at our Oakland University partnership and the grand opening of Everybody’s new coffee shop, both highlighting our growing community impact. We bid a warm farewell to extraordinary board members whose dedicated service helped shape our journey, while welcoming new members ready to propel our mission forward.

Our Oakland County location has seen impressive grounds improvements thanks to the generous MGIA grant, enhancing our environment for program participants. Meanwhile, our Macomb County location looks ahead with great promise as a new program manager fosters fresh, exciting relationships to expand our reach and services. At the same time, under the guidance of our new Oakland site manager, participants’ experiences continue to grow stronger.

Together, these achievements underscore a bright and growing future for Dutton Farm. We look forward to 2026 with your continued support.

Supported Employee of the Month

Pictured: Dutton Farm Job Coach Denise Pratt, Dutton Farm participant Rachel, and Ssweet Bakery Owner Alison Lemarechal

Rachel is our Supported Employee of the Month!

This month, we celebrate Rachel as she marks two years at Ssweet Bakery. When Rachel first joined Dutton Farm, she dreamed of working in retail, but our Workforce Development team saw that her talents and personality could shine even brighter.

After exploring several opportunities, one stood out immediately: a brand-new local bakery looking for front-counter support. From the moment Rachel stepped in for her interview, she knew it was the perfect fit. Just one month later, she was hired as a Service Associate, and she now proudly serves the community one day each week.

As we reflect on what we’re thankful for this season, we are deeply grateful for small businesses like Ssweet Bakery who embody the mission of Dutton Farm and open their doors to inclusive employment.

Community Involvement

Community Involvement: Creating Meaningful Connections

One of the most meaningful parts of life, something many of us rarely stop to think about, is the joy of experiencing new places, seasonal traditions, and small everyday wonders. For our participants, these moments are not just outings; they are opportunities to learn, connect, and be part of the community in ways that many people take for granted.

This fall, our Community Inclusion (CI) program brought those moments to life.

In August, participants spent a lively summer day at Cook's Dairy Farm, where the simple magic of being near animals never grows old. They met the cows, tiny calves and towering adults, learned how milk is collected, and tasted chocolate milk made that very morning. The day ended the way a perfect farm visit should: with fresh, homemade ice cream enjoyed under the sun.

As the seasons began to shift, September brought a dream outing to Comerica Park. For many, it was their first time stepping behind the scenes of a major league stadium. Participants visited the announcers’ booth, stood in the Champions Lounge surrounded by trophies and history, and even walked onto the field to stand in the dugout where the Detroit Tigers prepare for each game. It was a moment of awe and pride—an experience that made everyone feel like part of something bigger.

By October, fall traditions were in full swing. The group visited Tilson Street to take in the Halloween decorations that transform an ordinary neighborhood into a world of imagination. Laughter and wonder continued at Westview Orchards, where participants fed friendly animals, climbed hay towers, wandered the grounds, and ended the chilly autumn day with warm cider and fresh doughnuts—simple pleasures that filled the day with joy.

Adding even more magic, each month our friends at Fairytale Entertainment brought beloved characters right to our campus - Belle in August, Pluto in September, and Captain America in October. These visits brought plenty of smiles, hugs, and moments of sheer happiness, creating lasting memories for many.

These are more than trips or activities, they are reminders that everyone deserves access to the small joys and everyday experiences that shape a full and meaningful life. Thanks to our supporters, partners, and staff, our participants continue to experience community in ways that enrich, empower, and celebrate who they are.

Community Partners

We are grateful to highlight the Delta Dental Foundation, whose generous support has made a tremendous difference in the health and well-being of our participants. This year, Dutton Farm received a $5,000 grant from the Foundation, allowing us to bring a mobile dental hygienist directly to the farm for onsite dental screenings in a familiar, comfortable environment. With this funding, we welcomed Melanie Colbert of Travel Tooth Station, who provided high-quality preventive care right where our participants feel most supported.

Accessing dental care can be incredibly challenging for people with disabilities. Research shows that only 56% of adults with a disability receive dental care annually, compared to nearly 70% of adults without a disability. Transportation difficulties, anxiety around new clinical environments, sensory barriers, and financial constraints all contribute to this disparity. Delta Dental’s investment helps overcome these challenges by removing the biggest barriers and ensuring that care comes directly to our participants.

One of the most meaningful impacts of this partnership was seen through Jesika M., one of our participants who has been unable to access dental care for years due to a combination of these barriers. With the mobile screening clinic taking place at Dutton Farm, a setting where she feels safe and supported, Jesika was not only able to participate, but she did amazing. Her success reflects exactly why programs like this matter so deeply.

Because of the Delta Dental Foundation’s support, participants received individualized screenings, early identification of dental needs, and empowering experiences that build comfort and confidence around oral health. This collaboration truly demonstrates the power of community partnerships to transform access, improve health outcomes, and promote dignity and equity in care.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Delta Dental Foundation for their outstanding support and leadership. Your partnership is helping create brighter smiles, stronger health, and greater opportunities for the individuals we are privileged to serve.

This fall, Dutton Farm experienced an incredible outpouring of generosity during the Michigan Green Industry Association (MGIA) Day of Service. Thanks to the committed companies, crews, and individuals who donated equipment, expertise, and even meals, our grounds have been transformed into a more welcoming, functional, and beautiful space for everyone who comes to the farm.

From strengthened pathways and new plantings to gathering spaces that encourage connection, the improvements will benefit participants, staff, and families for years to come. We are especially grateful to Steve Udell and Robert Bywalec, co-chairs of MGIA’s Day of Service, for choosing Dutton Farm and leading this meaningful effort.

Each year, MGIA brings member companies from across the state together to donate their time, labor, and materials to a Michigan nonprofit or community project. Their professionals—skilled in landscape design, tree care, lawn maintenance, irrigation, hardscaping, and more—deliver high-quality, high-impact work guided by MGIA’s core values of excellence, service, professionalism, and collaboration.

This year at Dutton Farm, volunteers cleared brush, trimmed trees, fertilized orchards, planted evergreens, installed a new flagpole, created a beautiful brick paver patio, expanded driveway access, added enhancements for our goats, beautified our fire pit gathering area, donated curriculum supplies, and even built a horseshoe pit and cornhole game. Dozens of material and plant donors contributed to bringing the project to life.

Our grounds have never looked better, and that is because of the community spirit MGIA cultivates across Michigan’s green industry. We extend our heartfelt thanks to every volunteer, sponsor, and donor whose expertise and generosity made this transformation possible. Together, we are growing a stronger, more inclusive future for the Dutton Farm community.

We extend our deepest appreciation to the generous donor whose time, talent, and resources made the MGIA Day of Service at Dutton Farm possible:

Anthony Bango (Homebridge Precast), Adriana Whitley (Spurt Industries), Contenders Tree and Lawn Specialists, D&B Landscaping Inc. & D&B Greener Inc., Great Oaks Landscape Associates, Great Lakes Landscape Design, Hugh McGillivray (Landscape Supply Inc.), Joey Matusik (The Tree Connection, Inc.), Tom Bergschwenger (Natural Approach Lawn and Tree Care), SavATree – Tree Service & Lawn Care, Banner Sales and Consulting, Christensen’s Plant Center, Decra-Scape, Eagle Landscaping & Supply Company, English Gardens, Ewing Outdoor Supply, Landscape Supply, Inc., Main’s Landscape Supply Southfield, Michigan Landscape Supply Company Inc., Napoleon Stone LLC, Natural Approach Lawn and Tree Care, New Lawn Sod Farm, Orion Stone Depot, Osburn Industries, Ray Wiegand’s Nursery & Garden Center, Rock Bottom Stone Supply Landscape Center, Rocks ’n’ Roots Landscape & Pond Supplies, Sinacori Landscaping, Spurt Industries, Techo-Bloc, The Tree Connection, Inc., Unilock, WH Canon Company, and VTC Insurance Group.

Your contributions—materials, labor, equipment, expertise, and in-kind support—created meaningful and lasting improvements to Dutton Farm’s grounds. Thank you for helping us grow a more accessible, inclusive, and beautiful environment for our participants and community.

We’re thrilled to announce an exciting partnership that brings inclusion, purpose, and Michigan-made craftsmanship together: Deer Camp Sterling Heights is now carrying products from Everybody Inc., the sister company of Dutton Farm. By welcoming Everybody products into their store, Deer Camp is not just selling items; they are partnering with us to advance our mission and expand opportunities for adults with disabilities in Macomb County and beyond.

We invite you to stop by Deer Camp Sterling Heights, grab your favorite coffee, and explore the Everybody display. Every purchase supports meaningful employment and demonstrates the power of community partnerships.

Thank you, Deer Camp, for being a valued partner and helping us create a more inclusive Michigan — one handcrafted product at a time.

Dutton Farm Launches Job Readiness Program at Oakland University,

Expanding Opportunities for Adults with Disabilities

Dutton Farm is proud to announce the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for its new Job Readiness Program at  Oakland University’s West Campus,  a groundbreaking opportunity for adults with disabilities to receive workforce training in a higher learning environment.

Programs that prepare adults with disabilities for competitive, integrated employment are scarce, and this partnership addresses a critical gap by offering structured support in resume building, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette, all within a setting that models true inclusion.

“We are excited to provide Dutton Farm with space for their Job Readiness Program at OU’s West Center,” said Steve Mackey, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration. “Their commitment to empowering adults with disabilities reflects our own strategic goals and values of strong community stewardship. Through collaboration, we are creating new opportunities that strengthen our communities and region.”

By hosting the program on its campus, Oakland University is providing more than space, it is opening doors. Participants benefit from a fully integrated environment where they can learn, grow, and build confidence alongside the broader university community.

This initiative not only equips participants with essential workforce skills but also fosters greater awareness, connection, and inclusion within higher education for adults with disabilities, an opportunity that has historically been limited.

Dutton Farm is deeply grateful for Oakland University’s support and partnership. Together, we are expanding pathways to independence, purpose, and meaningful opportunities, demonstrating the profound impact of inclusive education on individuals and communities alike.

Thank You to Our Incredible High Hopes Rock 'n Roll Gala Sponsors!!

What an unforgettable night at this year’s High Hopes Rock ’n’ Roll Gala! Guests rocked out in throwback band t-shirts spanning the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, while enjoying delicious food and drinks at the Rochester Hills Banquet Center.

Macomb County Deputy Executive, and Dutton Farm board member, Tom Lehrer kicked off the evening and kept the event running smoothly, but beloved Dutton Farm participant Kevin M. stole the stage when he introduced CEO Jenny Brown with a rousing speech and plenty of applause.

The live auction was a hit, with auctioneer Melissa Koos dazzling the crowd and igniting spirited bidding wars for standout items, including the December 4th Thursday night Lions game against the Dallas Cowboys and an unforgettable vacation getaway to Costa Rica.

Later, the spotlight shone on our talented Dutton Farm participants as they took the stage for karaoke, accompanied by the amazing Live Band Karaoke Detroit, delivering performances that had everyone singing and dancing along. The electric energy of the crowd made the night feel truly special.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our generous sponsors, families, and guests for making this gala an incredible success, a true celebration of community, compassion, and purpose. Your generosity, enthusiasm, and presence made the evening shine, from the inspiring stories shared to the lively music, unforgettable auction, and joyful performances that perfectly reflect the heart of Dutton Farm.

Thanks to your amazing support, we are thrilled to share that the gala raised over $142,000 after expenses! These funds will directly support Dutton Farm’s programs, empowering adults with developmental disabilities, creating meaningful opportunities, and helping build a more inclusive community for all. Your contributions will expand programs, grow employment opportunities, and continue making lasting differences in the lives of those we serve.

From all of us at Dutton Farm, thank you for believing in our mission, standing beside us, and helping create real impact. Together, we’re changing lives—one person, one opportunity, and one celebration at a time!

Adult Education

Growing Skills, Building Community: A Season of Progress in Adult Education

This fall marked a season of tremendous growth, connection, and learning across our Adult Education programs at Dutton Farm. From a thriving Farmers Market to new leadership and expanded curriculum, our programs continue to deepen their impact and create meaningful opportunities for adults with disabilities in both Oakland and Macomb Counties.

A Successful Farmers Market Season

Our Oakland location wrapped up another outstanding Farmers Market season, welcoming more than 300 community members to shop fresh vegetables, hand-cut azalea flowers, unique artwork, and Everybody products crafted by our talented artisans. Participants like Kevin and Andrew shined as they greeted customers, handled sales, and shared stories behind the items they helped create. These interactions don’t just build confidence and communication skills—they foster genuine community inclusion.

Strengthening Leadership: Welcoming Hannah and Michele

This season also brought important additions to our leadership team. At the Oakland site, we were thrilled to welcome Hannah Paul as our new Site Manager. With nearly a decade of experience supporting adults with disabilities through coaching, classroom instruction, and program leadership, Hannah brings both expertise and heart. She jumped right in, helping host our Trunk-or-Treat event and coordinating a Thanksgiving lunch that brought joy to everyone on campus. (Fun fact: Her favorite animal is a cow!)

Over in Macomb, we proudly welcomed Michele Bachler as our new Program Manager. With more than 15 years of experience in workforce development and behavioral health, Michele has a long history of walking alongside people with disabilities with compassion, wisdom, and care. She is especially excited about the expansion of Workforce Development services at the Macomb location and is already preparing to welcome a new Job Developer to the team.

Expanding Opportunity in Macomb

With Workforce Development now available at our Macomb site, participants have access to a wide range of services—including job readiness training, job coaching, supported employment, and job development. These offerings align beautifully with Adult Education, giving participants more pathways to build confidence, explore their interests, and work toward employment goals.

Macomb is also strengthening community connections through upcoming partnerships with Anton Art Center, Inclusively Fit, and the Clinton Valley Little League Challenger Division, creating more opportunities for community inclusion and meaningful engagement.

Building a Stronger Future, One Skill at a Time

Across both locations, our Adult Education team is working hard to ensure that curriculum updates are intentional, enriching, and aligned with the mission of creating dignified inclusion and meaningful opportunities. Whether through gardening, art, cooking, or community-based learning, participants are building confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging.

With new partnerships, expanded programs, and strong leadership guiding the way, the future of Adult Education at Dutton Farm has never looked brighter.

Workforce Development

Community at Work: Stories of Success

This quarter, Dutton Farm’s Workforce Development (WFD) team welcomed nine new supported employees, bringing the total number of individuals receiving employment support to 70. Each person we serve has unique strengths, goals, and dreams, and we’re proud to support them on their path to meaningful, community-based work.

Many participants are choosing long-term, on-the-job support through our Job Coaching program, which strengthens their confidence while helping employers build natural, inclusive supports within their workplaces. We are grateful for the businesses who believe in inclusive hiring and create environments where our job seekers truly belong.

One of our newest supported employees, Paul, is a powerful example of this impact. After receiving a job offer from his local grocery store, Paul was referred for job coaching to ensure a successful start. Our team knew he had the skills to thrive, and with two months of coaching, he quickly did - building strong routines, confidence, and natural workplace connections. As Paul grew, the business seamlessly transitioned to supporting him independently. His success was measured not just by task completion, but by his sense of belonging, reliability, and pride in meaningful work.

As our Workforce Development program grows, so do our services. This quarter, we strengthened our focus on quality, sustainability, and expanded opportunities. Supported Employment Services will now center on long-term job support through Job Coaching, while our new Job Readiness program equips participants with soft skills, interview preparation, résumé development, and assistance securing employment.

Together, these programs build lasting community partnerships and create individualized employment pathways. With every new job, every new collaboration, and every story like Paul’s, we move closer to a community where everyone can contribute, belong, and build a purposeful future.

Art Without Limits

Dutton Farm Artists Shine at re:con and Explore Self-Employment Opportunities

We are thrilled to announce that all 12 of our talented Dutton Farm artists were selected to participate in re:con’s Pop-Up Community Art Show, with each artist represented by a unique piece of artwork. This was an incredible opportunity for our artists to share their creativity and perspectives with a wider audience.

About re:con

re:con (The Convention of New Beginnings) is presented by Incompass Michigan in partnership with the Michigan Rehabilitation Association. It is Michigan’s premier annual event for professionals and organizations dedicated to removing barriers, restarting lives, and restoring community. The conference brings together service providers, advocates, educators, and individuals with disabilities to celebrate inclusion, innovation, and empowerment across the state.

About the Pop-Up Community Art Show

The re:con Pop-Up Community Art Show is a platform that highlights the creative talents of artists whose work reflects empowerment, independence, and self-expression. This year, the show took place during the re:con conference at the Radisson Hotel in Kalamazoo, with an opening reception on November 5th. Dutton Farm’s Art Without Limits Art Manager Maya Scott attended the event to sell our artists’ work, giving the public a chance to support these talented individuals while celebrating their creativity.

Expanding Opportunities Through Self-Employment and Trove Marketplace

For individuals with disabilities who are interested in pursuing self-employment through creative work, Dutton Farm can help guide you in showcasing and selling your art. One way to do this is through Trove Marketplace, an inclusive e-commerce platform that empowers entrepreneurs with disabilities to reach a wider audience, manage fulfillment, and retain the majority of their earnings—building both economic independence and creative confidence.

If you are interested in exploring this opportunity, please contact Michele Bachler at michelebachler@duttonfarm.org for Macomb County or Lily Kakkuri at lilykakkuri@duttonfarm.org for Oakland County. Our team is excited to provide guidance, coaching, and resources to help you turn your creativity into a sustainable self-employment venture.

Advocacy in Action

Tim’s Dream Job, His Courageous Voice, and the Power of Inclusive Employment

When Tim joined the Dutton Farm workforce earlier this  year, he arrived with a simple but powerful dream: to work with animals. He knew what he wanted, and he was willing to do the hard work to get there.

The road wasn’t easy, he faced a lengthy job placement process, transportation barriers, and the everyday challenges that come with navigating systems not built with universal inclusion in mind. But Tim never wavered. His determination, optimism, and deep love for animals kept him focused.

That persistence paid off. Today, Tim proudly serves as a Pet Care Associate at Companion Pet Lodge, supported by his dedicated job coach. From leading small dog playtime to ensuring the pups receive the best possible care, Tim approaches each task with heart and purpose. His joy is unmistakable.

In his own words: “It’s my dream job. I love it!”

But Tim’s story doesn’t end with achieving his own dream. In September, he demonstrated courage of a different kind, the kind that doesn’t just change one life, but can shift perceptions, policies, and possibilities for thousands.

Dutton Farm CEO Jenny Brown accompanied Tim to Lansing, where he stood before the LEO Workforce Development Board of Directors to share his employment journey. In front of state leaders, employers, and workforce decision-makers, Tim spoke with honesty and pride about what meaningful employment means to him, and how supported employment helped him overcome barriers that once felt impossible.

Tim described the fulfillment he finds in caring for animals each day, the confidence he has gained, and the independence he continues to build. His testimony put a face, and a voice, to the experiences of countless Michiganders with disabilities striving for the dignity of work. Through Tim, the Board heard not just one success story, but the collective hopes of a community too often overlooked.

Tim’s courage in Lansing is a reminder of what self-advocacy truly looks like. It’s standing up and saying:

My dreams matter. My work matters. My life matters.

His message resonated deeply, helping state leaders better understand the power of inclusive employment and the importance of investing in pathways that allow every person to find purpose, contribute their gifts, and pursue their goals.

At Dutton Farm, we could not be prouder. Tim is living his dream—and using his voice to help others reach theirs. His story shows what becomes possible when communities believe in people, remove barriers, and offer real opportunities for dignity, independence, and belonging.

Tim’s journey is more than a success story. It’s a call to action—and a glimpse of a future where every person has the chance to live the life they choose.
